Liverpool’s Diane Betelak Named Grooming Contest Judge of the Year at Leading Industry Trade Show

AZUSA, Calif. – Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas was the setting for the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards, the competitive dog grooming industry’s version of the Oscars that honors the best and brightest groomers, contest judges and pet salons.   This year, the annual presentation saw Liverpool’s own Diane Betelak receive the Grooming Contest Judge of the Year Award, given for her contribution to the grooming world as a contest judge.

A Nationally Certified Master Groomer and owner of Heads and Tails Professional Dog Grooming in Liverpool since 1982, Diane is a much sought-after speaker and judge for major grooming shows throughout the U.S. and Canada.  She has groomed competitively in the U. S. and abroad, winning multiple “Best in Show” and “Best All-Around Groomer” awards and is a member of Groom Team USA.  Diane is also a past winner of the Cardinal Crystal Achievement Award for "American Groomer of the Year" in 1997, and was nominated as “Groomer of the Century” in 2000.   

“Diane has shown herself to be a fair, honest and tremendously informed grooming contest judge, and these traits, along with her knowledge of contest rules, breeds and grooming procedures, are what have earned her the Grooming Contest Judge of the Year Award,” said Tony De Vos, President of Cardinal Pet Care.  “Not only is she an excellent and impartial grooming contest judge, but Diane is an award-winning groomer herself, and her expertise as a groomer gives her a unique perspective on judging contests.  We are thrilled and honored to present  her with the Grooming Contest Judge of the Year Award.”

The Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards were founded in 1988 by Cardinal President Tony De Vos and Shirlee Kalstone, then owner of the International Intergroom trade show for competitive grooming, for the purpose of establishing standards of grooming excellence and recognizing professional skills in the competitive grooming industry.  Since the beginning, the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards have been considered one of the highest honors in the pet grooming industry, annually presenting awards for outstanding achievement in six different categories.
