New York City’s Biscuits & Bath Wins the 2011 Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Award for Retail Grooming Salon of the Year (5+ Units) at SuperZoo 2012

AZUSA, Calif. – The competitive dog grooming industry’s best and brightest recently gathered at the SuperZoo pet retailer trade show at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the annual presentation of the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards, the industry’s version of the Oscars.  New York City’s Biscuits & Bath Dog Retreat was the recipient of the Award for Retail Grooming Salon of the Year (5+ Units).

Biscuits & Bath has a simple philosophy to “work with our clients to positively impact the quality of life for each dog we serve.”  John Ziegler founded the company 22 years ago when he discovered the dog walker he hired to walk his Labrador Retriever puppy did not walk the dog, but rather kept the puppy locked in an apartment.  That experience prompted John to start his own dog walking service, Happy Trails & Tails, taking all the client dogs for romps in Central Park.  Grooming was added to the company’s services after a dog walking client had a similar experience at a groomer, where his dog was in a cage all day.  The company changed its name to Biscuits & Bath, Grooming & Goodies, to reflect these new services, eventually shortening it to Biscuits & Bath.  Today, there are eight locations in New York – including a couple of “doggy gyms – where the company proudly provides grooming services as well as daycare, walking, training and veterinary care to more dogs than any other company in the city.

“We are thrilled to present this year’s Retail Grooming Salon of the Year (5+ Units) Award to Biscuits & Bath,” said Tony de Vos, President of Cardinal Pet Care, a major manufacturer of pet products and sponsor of the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards.  “The entire staff, from founder John Ziegler and CEO Scott Smith on down, has dedicated themselves to providing both canine and human clients with the best possible customer service, and they continue to raise the standards by which they work.  All of us at Cardinal congratulate Biscuits & Bath on this well-deserved award.”

The Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards were founded in 1988 by Cardinal Pet Care President Tony de Vos and Shirlee Kalstone, then owner of the International Intergroom trade show for competitive grooming, for the purpose of establishing standards of grooming excellence and recognizing professional skills in the competitive grooming industry.  Since the beginning, the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards have been considered one of the highest honors in the pet grooming industry, annually presenting awards for outstanding achievement in eight different categories.  Click here for a complete description of the criteria for the awards.
